Homework will be used as an instrument to practice skills and extend the learning done in class. Thoroughness, best academic effort, and neatness are the expectation - not perfection. Students should demonstrate responsible behavior with regard to taking initiative to get started and task focus to finish in a timely manner.
It is expected that 3rd grade students will READ for a minimumof 20minuteseachevening. This should be recorded (name of book, pages read, amount of time spent reading) at the bottom of the day's entry in students' planners.
Students complete Daily Language Review (DLR) work in class each day. On Thursday students will bring these home to study for their DLR quiz on Friday.
MATH skills practice sheets come home Monday through Wednesday. These should return to school daily for classroom review. On Thursday students use these to study for their quiz the following day. Additional homework is assigned by individual math block teachers. Students are held responsible for writing their assignment in their planners and returning completed assignments to their math block teachers.
This year Selwyn is expecting students to access COMPASS LEARNING for one hour a week from home as a homework requirement. Log-in information can be found on our "Websites for Students" page on the "Resources" drop down menu. Compass Learning is a digital resource that responds to specific challenges students face, such as lower levels of proficiency or skill and concept gaps as identified by their MAP testing. Beginning second quarter, students will be asked to document their time each week.
